Qualifying Tournaments and World Finals

Sanctioned Qualification

The top finishers at all sanctioned qualifiers will receive seeds at the Evo World tournament, giving them a much better position to achieve a top placing.

Game Specific Rules

In addition to the rules found at the tournament rules page, the following rules shall be enforced for the games below.

General Rules (apply to all tournaments, except Super Smash Brothers Brawl)

  • All games will be played on the default settings, unless otherwise specified, below.
  • All macros available via the in-game controller configuration menu are allowed.
  • Hardware macros, rapid-fire, or other hardware assisted mechinsims are strictly forbidden.
  • Accidently pausing the game at any time during the fight may force you to forfeit the round (solely at a judge's discretion).
  • You must provide your own controller for games played on the Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Dreamcast and Gamecube. We will provide PS2 to DC input convertors if you wish to use them to use your Playstation 2 controller on the Dreamcast. You may not use your own convertor. For Playstation 3 games, you must provide your own converter if you wish to use a Playstation 2 controller.

Capcom vs SNK 2

  • Game version: US Playstation 2
  • Game Settings: Versus Mode, Round Time 99 Seconds
  • Qualifying matches will be one game. Tournament finals (i.e. top 8 competitors), and semi-finals will be 2/3 games.
  • Roll Cancelling is allowed.
  • No EX Grooves allowed.
  • You may not use the same character twice on one team.
  • Ultimate Rugal, Super Akuma, Evil Ryu, and Evil Iori are not allowed in tournament play.
  • Switching the order of your characters during the loading screen is only allowed on your first match.
The following rules apply during the semi-finals and finals, where matches will be 2/3 games.
  • After winning, you must pick the same characters, same order.

Marvel vs Capcom 2

  • Game version: US Dreamcast
  • Game Settings: Speed, Turbo 1, Damage 2, 2/3 Games
  • You may not use any glitch that prevent the game from being played. This includes game freezing, game resetting, player freezing, etc.
  • Deadbody infinites are allowed to gain a positional advantage, but not to delay the game.
  • Winner must keep same starting character, but can switch the order of assists.
  • Winner may not use the "Switch Glitch" to have a different starting character.
  • You may not use the same character twice on one team.

Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection

  • Game version: US Playstation 3
  • Game Settings: Versus Mode, 3/5 Rounds, 2/3 Games, Guard Damage Off, Round Time 60 Seconds
  • If the players do not agree on a stage within 15 seconds the match judge will enforce blind random stage select.
  • There will be no customizing colors, names or items at any time before or during a tournament match. Any player that does so will be given a loss.
  • Jinpachi is not allowed in tournament play.

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike

  • Game version: US Playstation 2
  • Game Settings: Versus Mode, 2/3 Games, 2/3 Rounds, Round Time 99 Seconds
  • Winning player must keep the same super art.
  • Gill is not allowed in tournament play.
  • The in-game judgment feature will be used to determine the outcome of draw games.

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo

  • Game version: Dreamcast
  • Game Settings: Versus Mode, Turbo 3, 2/3 Rounds, 2/3 Games
  • Akuma is not allowed in tournament play.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl

  • Game version: Nintendo Wii
  • Game Settings: Singles VS Melee
  • First game of a match to be played on Smashville. Players can decide to play on any map, if both players agree.
  • Excessive stalling or abusing terrain to not engage the enemy is prohibited, and can be enforced by a tournament director only. This will result in a loss of the match.
  • Losing player can pick what method to be used after match:

    Method A
    1) First stage is Smashville
    2) Winner keeps character
    3) Loser can either pick stage or character
    4) If loser picks stage then character is kept
    5) If loser picks character then stage is kept

    Method B
    1) First stage is Smashville
    2) Loser picks stage
    3) Winner picks character
    4) Loser picks character

  • 3 Stock, 5 Min timer, 2/3 Games
  • Items on medium spawn
  • Sudden Death will not decide the outcome of the game
  • Allowed Items: Banana Peel, Unira, Spring, Mr. Saturn, Green Shell, Smoke Ball, Freezie, Super Scope, Sandbag, Food, Screw Attack, Warp Star, Metal Box, Bunny Hood, Beam Sword, Baseball Bat, Lip's Stick, Star Rod, Hothead, Smash Ball, Ray Gun, Pitfall, Cracker Launcher, Motion-Sensor Bomb, Hammer, Golden Hammer, Bumper, Franklin Badge.
  • Banned Stages: New Pork City, Hyrule Temple, Warioware, Spear Pillar, Flat Zone 2, Original Mario Brothers, Mushroomy Kingdom, 75m, Summit, Rumble Falls
