About the Tournament

What is EVO2K5?

The EVO2K5 tournament is a 3-day event devoted solely to hard-core competition on console fighting games. The tournament takes place August12-14, 2005, at Green Valley Ranch in Las Vegas.

What is there to do at EVO2K5?

Why, play lots of fighting games of course! There is a huge gaming arena at EVO2K5. This tournament hall will run non-stop game tournaments all weekend long.

If tournaments aren't your thing, located at another part of the room will be a BYOC (bring your own console) area where you can socialize with other gaming fanatics and play any game you like. Just plug in and play.

Additionally, we'll have several exhibitors in the BYOC area. This is your chance to check out the latest games and gear from companies like Pelican, Hori, and Tecmo.

Is all this free?

Not exactly. There is a $20 cover charge to attend EVO2K5. There's an additional charge of $10 per tournament. So if you're interested in attending Evo and playing in the Tekken 5 and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 tournaments, your total entry fee would be $40. An additional fee of $5 will be tacked on if you choose to register in person.

Tournament Games

The games for the 2005 tournament are an excellent mix of old-school 2D fighting and the latest visually-spectacular 3D brawlers. One thing all these games have in common is that they are incredibly difficult to master. Past EVO2K champions have studied their respective games for years, learning the tiniest ins-and-outs of the game engine to gain an edge over their opponents.

Here are the games selected for the 2005 tournament:

  • Tekken 5
  • Tekken Tag Tournament
  • Marvel vs. Capcom 2
  • Capcom vs. SNK 2
  • Guilty Gear XX #Reload
  • Street Fighter 3, Third Strike
  • Street Fighter 2, Super Turbo

Additionally, new to 2005, there are eight tournament games that will have the opportunity to join the Evolution 2005 tournament. These games will require a "special" vote to determine the outcome and see what games make the cut.
